High in the west before sunrise, the moon rests inside a triangle formed by the Gemini Twins 2 fist-widths above, Procyon 2 fist-widths to the upper right, and magnitude 1.3 Regulus 1½ fist-widths to the lower left.

4 Oct
Regulus is 2 finger-widths to the waning crescent moon’s left this morning.

6 Oct
The moon is at perigee, 56.42 Earth-radii away.

7 Oct
New moon at 1844 UT

9 Oct
The thin waxing crescent moon is low in the west at dusk. Look quickly to spot magnitude 1.5 Mars, 2 finger-widths to the upper right. Viewers in southern latitudes may see magnitude -4.5 Venus near the horizon to the lower right.
