16 May
Venus is 4 finger-widths to the moon’s lower right tonight, and the Gemini Twins are 2 fist-widths to its upper left. The moon is midway between Procyon, 2½ fist-widths to the left, and Capella, the same distance to the right.

17 May
Procyon is 1½ fist-widths to the moon’s lower left, and the Gemini Twins are less than 1 fist-width above it.

18 May
The Gemini Twins are a little more than 1 fist-width to the moon’s right, while Procyon is about the same distance below. Mars is 1½ fist-widths to the upper left.

19 May
Low in the west at dusk, Mars is 2 finger-widths above the moon, Regulus is 1 fist-width to the upper left, and the Big Dipper is high in the north far to the upper right.

20 May
First-quarter moon at 2343 UT. The moon has moved to the lower left of Regulus, and Mars is to the right of Regulus.

21 May
Saturn is 1 fist-width to the moon’s upper left, and Mars is 1½ fist-widths to the upper right. Regulus lies just left of Mars, which is slightly brighter at magnitude 1.0 compared with Regulus’ 1.3 magnitude. Can you see the difference? Use binoculars.

22 May
Saturn is 4 finger-widths to the moon’s upper right tonight, and Spica is 2½ fist-widths to its left.
