9 May
Jupiter and the moon rise within a half-hour of each other, 1½ hours before sunrise. Look low in the east at dawn to see magnitude -2.2 Jupiter 2 finger-widths to the waning crescent moon’s lower right.

12 May
On Mars, the summer solstice occurs today at about 2000 UT.

14 May
New moon at 0104 UT.

15 May
Low in the west at sunset, magnitude -4.0 Venus is 2 finger-widths to the upper left of the thin waxing crescent moon. Look quickly because both will fall below the horizon in 1½ hours.
